My name is Tamsin Stirling – I’m a freelance housing researcher based in Cardiff, Wales.
I was very lucky to have been awarded a Winston Churchill Memorial Trust travel fellowship in 2017. The fellowships are based on a ‘travel to learn, return to inspire’ approach.
My fellowship was called Making Youth Homelessness Everybody’s Business. I visited a number of cities and towns in America & Canada to find out:
- how organisations in these areas have engaged communities and businesses in preventing, tackling and ultimately ending youth homelessness
- what has enabled this
- what the barriers have been
I also visited some fantastic projects working with young people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
I am now on the Welsh Government Homelessness Action Group that is meeting between summer of 2019 and spring of 2020 and will be making recommendations on how homelessness can be ended in Wales.
